SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail protection system, that is designed to verify whether an e-mail message was sent by a certified server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain name will prevent the faking of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain creates a specific record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers that are allowed to send emails from mail boxes under the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Any time an email message is sent, the first DNS server it goes through tests whether it comes from an official server. If it does, it's sent to the destination address, however when it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is discarded. In this way nobody can mask an email address to make it look as if you are distributing spam. This approach is also known as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

If you host your domain names in a hosting account with us and we manage the email addresses for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a section of its own where you are able to view which domain names are currently protected. For those that are not, you can enable the SPF protection solution and manage various things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and to create a rule that email messages can be sent only if your domains include our MX records. The last solution is the most secure one, but it can be used when we manage the e-mail addresses for your domains and do not use another email service provider. The newly created records will propagate within 24 hours and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an e-mail using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel, that is included with our Linux semi-dedicated packages, offers you an incredibly easy-to-use interface to enable the SPF security service for every domain that you host in your new account. A couple of clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that and you'll only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be allowed to send messages from your emails. In case the e-mail messages are taken care of on our end and not by another supplier, you'll be able to boost the security level even more and benefit from an option for all of the outgoing emails to be sent only if your domain names use our MX records. This option will give you better control and it will eliminate any chance of somebody forging your e-mail addresses with the purpose of spamming or scamming people. It's not applicable in case only your web site is on our modern cloud hosting platform, while your e-mails are handled by another provider. If you are not sure what features to select, our tech support crew will help you 24/7.
